Pope Vigilius Teaches Us that the Heretic Brings Anathema upon Himself

“The heretic, even though he has not been condemned formally by any individual, in reality brings anathema on himself, having cut himself off from the way of truth by his heresy.”
(Second Council of Constantinople, 553) [Emphasis mine]

The heretic brings anathema on himself even though he has not been condemned formally by the Church.  This flies in the face of those who hold (heretically by the way) that one is separated from the Church for heresy only when the Church makes that judgement and not beforehand.
